Sandalwood, known in India as ‘chandan’ is valuable for its fragrant heartwood. Sandalwood, one of the finest woods for carving, is said to be next only to Ivory for intricate workmanship and mystical aura. A large number of idols, figurines, and decorative objects are made out of it, including figures of deities, animals, birds, chess sets, jewellery boxes, pill boxes, walking sticks, night lamps, crazy boxes, seals, flower vases, key chains, pens, bookmarks, letter openers, necklaces, chanting beads, charms, etc. We leave the onus for judging the craftsmanship and artistic opulence of the piece to the eyes of the beholder.
